The digital certificate in sworn translation
Tempo de leitura: 3 minutos

The digital certificate emerged as a new way of helping the process of sworn translation. And, with the new coronavirus pandemic, this tool gained great visibility for the segment. After all, it brought practicality and saving of resources for translation services.

            In fact, digital certificates have existed for some time. However, it was rarely accepted in Brazil. And, in the case of some entities, there was simply a refusal in recognizing it as authentic. In today’s post, we will get to know more about this resource and ow it may help the world of translation.

How does the digital certificate work?

            The digital certificate is an electronic document. So, it works as a type of ID for people in the virtual world. This way, it may be used as a signature with legal validity to identify people and companies. With this, it carries the authenticity of information.

            However, this mechanism took some time to be accepted in the sworn translations. After all, it exists since the Provisional Decree no. 2.200-2, of 24/08/2001. With this decree, documents should be accepted with digital signatures with no restrictions. But it wasn’t like that…

            As we said in the beginning of this post, some entities refused to accept it. Among them, the registry offices of deeds and documents and Detran. But last December everything changed! This was because the National Department of Corporate Registration and Integration (DREI) authorized translators to use the resource in their services.

The digital signature and sworn translations

            This decision was made in the best time possible. Because there is no requirement to present physical documents. And this contributes immensely to the moment of social isolation in which we are living. So, the transaction is made online.

            The customer has only to send documents via internet to the translator. Then, the translator performs the sworn translation, issues the digital certificate and returns them, all virtually. Much more practical, isn’t it? Below, we show how the translation with this certificate is made of:

  1. Sworn translation;
  2. PDF of the document received virtually;
  3. Digital certificate issued by the Manifest.

Is the use of digital certificate mandatory?

            Despite its functionality, the use of the digital certificate is not mandatory. So, only the translators who are interested in the resource may request the token with the certifying authorities. Then it shall be renewed every year.

            Now that you know the digital certificate, it is hard not to agree with how much easier our lives are with it! After all, it brings much more practicality, both to customers and providers. Also, there is no additional cost to hire this service. Very interesting, isn’t it?
